Position Summary:

Mercury Marine is looking for an individual who lives and breathes internal combustion engines to fill a Design Engineer position in the Base Engine group. This position requires a well-rounded knowledge of rotating and reciprocating components with a specific emphasis on crankshaft design. Major tasks where a candidate is expected to excel are as follows:

Lead and manage assigned engine component design projects.Write detailed component design specifications.Challenge existing design practices and develop innovative solutions.Design lightweight and cost-effective components/systems using DFSS discipline.Design cost effective experiments to gather data needed for decision making / design approval.Draft and implement DVP for cranktrain components.Develop patentable ideas that lead to commercial success in the market.Maintain team communication/cooperation with Engineers of mating/adjacent components.Lead/Participate in cross function teams including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Suppliers.Work with Design Analysis, Mechanical Development and Engine Testing groups to validate designs.

Knowledge, skill & ability requirements for this opportunity include the following:

BS degree in mechanical engineering (Masters degree a plus).Experience in the design and validation of crankshafts and other rotating and reciprocating components for internal combustion engines with multiple cylinders.Strong understanding and specialization in internal combustion engine theory.Strong understanding of FEA & modal analysis used in design development.Construct and execute comprehensive DVP’s involving coordination of cross functional resources.Pro-E/Creo design background is a plus.3 5 or more years’ experience in engine design field.
