The Sourcing Development Engineer is an individual contributor in Mercury’s direct material procurement organization, reporting to the Category Manager. The Sourcing Development Engineer leads procurement and supplier development activities for Mercury’s advanced engineering and new product development initiatives. They work in in a highly technical, fast paced, and cross-functional team setting, applying a blend of technical, quality, and commercial skills to achieve objectives.
Primary ResponsibilitiesSource: create and execute component and system sourcing strategies to meet business needs for technical support, cost, quality, and delivery. Develop statements of work, execute requests for quotation/proposal, bid analysis, negotiation, contracting of new business, and issuance of purchase orders.Project Management: utilize strong project management skills to drive supplier and team execution to meet project deliverablesTechnical Development: participate in design reviews to facilitate alignment between Mercury functional needs, supplier process capabilities, and costQuality Systems: perform supplier audits to evaluate the commercial, quality, and program suitability for potential sources; facilitate component quality approvals complying with PPAP standards; drive root cause and corrective actions with suppliersCost Management: proactively identify and execute cost reductions, effectively challenge and mitigate price increase requests, and negotiate aggressively to achieve best total cost for MercuryRisk Management: proactively identify risks to deliverables, develop and execute mitigation plansCollaboration: engage ethically, professionally, and collaboratively with all internal and external stakeholders to execute responsibilities and maintain effective business relationshipsSupplier management: build effective relationships and manage supplier performance by clearly communicating expectations, leading business and performance reviews, and holding suppliers accountableTravel: regularly visit suppliers to audit capabilities and conduct business/program reviews
Basic QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred, or Operations, Supply Chain, or similarly related field10+ years of experience in sourcing, procurement, supplier quality, or supplier management rolesKnowledgeable of and able to discuss the manufacturing processes for electrical components and systemsStrong negotiating and cost management skills; adept at managing conflict and handling difficult situationsProficient with engineering prints and specifications, APQP, and PPAP processesAbility to successfully manage multiple ongoing projects, prioritize and adapt to changing business needsAbility to perform in fast paced team environment with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsProficient with software tools including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ProjectPositive attitude, ethics, and international values to promote a healthy, diverse, high performance cultureOccasional day and/or overnight travel, up to 20%, domestic and international
Preferred QualificationsThree or more years of experience in automotive electronics or similar industriesExperience in original equipment manufacturer setting with comparable scale and requirements to MercuryC.P.M. and/or CPIM certificationsLean and Six Sigma certification and application experienceData analytics skills, such as proficiency with Microsoft Power BI or Power Apps
