The City is seeking an Operations Superintendent – Public Works. The purpose of this position is to supervise, plan and coordinate various functions of the Fleet Division, Maintenance Division, Solid Waste Division, and Electrical Division of the Department of Public Works. The Operations Superintendent will be responsible for day to day operational management of tasks, activities, services, issues, operational performance and personnel management and performance associated with each individual task/work order, and coordinate City operations to allow efficient delivery of services.

Required Experience

The successful candidate will be a responsible leader able to manage and set priorities for day to day activities. Preparation, monitoring, and administering the Capital and Operation budgets for all divisions to allocate sufficient resources for scheduled work is required to assure excellent performance of City services is accomplished and maintained on a regular basis. Proficiency in communications is required in order to be the spokesperson to the public and the press on work projects and emergency operations.
Position requires knowledge of public works operations, facilities and procedures; materials, methods and equipment used in fleet operations, municipal electrical systems and utilities infrastructure maintenance; equipment maintenance, methods and procedures including both preventive and corrective techniques. Minimum training involves a two-year engineering or public works administration degree and five to 10 years’ experience in public works supervision, or any appropriate combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as experience counseling people in difficult situations, excellent judgment, communication, and organizational skills. The individual must exhibit creative problem solving skills, including the ability to translate solutions into action plans.
